General Information

Health Precautions

Zambia is a malaria area. Prophylactics are essential with your doctor’s approval. Yellow Fever vaccines are compulsory and a proof there of has to be shown. Hepatitis A and B vaccines are also recommended but first check with your Physician. First Aid is on hand in camp but it is wise to bring your own requirements. Medical insurance is strongly advised.

International Flight Route: From country of origin to Johannesburg to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (Lusaka).

An SES representative will meet you at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and assist you through customs for arrival and departure. Our representative will also transfer you to your charter or hotel accommodation and assist you with any other need.

Customs & Immigration + Season

Hunting season is from 1 June to 30 November. You will be issued a visa on arrival. This costs $150.

Climate

Temperatures vary from 8 degrees Celsius (48 F) in the mornings to 34 Celsius (90F) during midday for June, July and August. However September, October and November is our hot season and daytime temperatures can rise to between 35 and 40 Celsius (110F)

During the months of June/July/August a light down jacket or fleece is recommended. Later in the season a light-hunting jacket might be required in the mornings. Care must be taken not to use safari clothes of a light color. Grey, dark green or camo is recommended in the hunting field. Long sleeve shirts and trousers will protect the hunter from the sun. A cap or floppy hat is essential.

Game Species

The Luangwa valley is famous for its population of Lion and Leopard. Hippo and crocodile frequent the rivers and lagoons. The bush bordering the river offers excellent opportunities for walk and stalk and supports a host of other species such as Waterbuck, Chobe Bushbuck and Puku. The Mopani forest and undulating hills are home to Buffalo, Roan, Kudu and Sharp’s Grysbok.

Accommodation

Hunting is conducted from two camps. The main camp, Sansi Camp, is situated on the west bank of the Luangwa River and includes comfortable safari-style chalets with en-suite bathroom. Power is supplied by both solar and generator. Meals are enjoyed in a central dining room with magnificent views of the river and surrounding countryside. This camp is built from natural materials in traditional African safari style.

The second camp, Lukushashi Camp, is located on the bank of the Lumsemfwa River on the Western edge of the hunting concession and includes comfortable safari-style tents with en-suite bathroom. Power is supplied by both solar and generator. Meals are enjoyed in a central dining room with magnificent views of the river and surrounding countryside. This camp is built from natural materials in traditional African safari style. This camp is famous for its very large crocodiles and outstanding tiger fishing.

Charter flight

  • Route, from Lusaka to West Petauke and return.
  • Maximum luggage per passenger if three or more people: 15 kg (33 lbs)
  • Cost: +-$3000/Cessna 206. The cost of a charter flight may vary according to number of people and type of aeroplane, over which we have no control.

Export of Trophies

  • A basic fee of $1000 is charged per client for a mini safari and $1500 per client is charged for a classic safari, for dip, crate and export documentation for the export of trophies.
  • These fees do not cover export from Zambia to your home country.
